Welcome to the Blog of Sara Flynn

Sara Flynn is known for her creativity and brainstorming abilities. The attorneys at the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, where Sara was on staff for 6 years, all agreed that if they could have only one person brainstorm their case, they would want Sara. In his book, The Last Lawyer, John Temple described Sara's unique, visionary talent as "the ability to see every case in a new, refracted light." Since the possibilities for an effective mitigation presentation are virtually limitless, consulting with an imaginative thinker is essential. Sara provides expert consultation in every case, but also offers assistance in re-imagining theories of defense as an independent service.

Sara Flynn is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) specializing in criminal defense services. She is able to assist clients, regardless of the charges, at all levels of litigation (pre-trial, post-conviction, and clemency) in state and federal court. Sara combines the skills of a biographer, social anthropologist, and forensic social worker to present the client's life history to the fact finder, whether judge or jury, in the most detail possible. With over 15 years of experience, and involvement in more than 150 cases, Sara has a proven track record and highly developed skills. With her personable, efficient and intelligent approach, Sara provides clients and counsel with superior mitigation services.

Sara holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work (MSW). She is board certified in the state of Florida as a licensed clinical social worker (#SW10740) and is therefore qualified to identify and diagnose psychological disorders, and render opinions as to how the client's mental health may have impacted the client at the time of the alleged crime.  Sara served as a staff member at The Center for Death Penalty Litigation (CDPL), a non-profit capital resource center in Durham, NC, where she gained six years of valuable training and experience as a mitigation specialist and pioneered as NC's first death row support services coordinator. Sara has always included advocacy in her career as a mitigation specialist and continues to work in opposition to the death penalty.
